How to create your dream life in four minutes a day
I’ve dreamed I was a guitar-playing superstar (true story). Yet I doubt that’s happening anytime soon and certainly not simply because I “dreamed” it. The difference between “dreaming” and actually creating your dream life is combining dreaming with DOING.
Dream it – then DO it
Anything we want to create we’ve got to envision first, to know where we’re really going and how to organise around it. That’s what our brains do: PREDICT & PREPARE. So, the clearer your vision of your dream life, the stronger the likelihood you can make it happen.
The best defense against fear is preparation.Chris Hadfield, Canadian Astronaut
But the second half is the part most people leave out: the preparation, the actual DOING. So how do you do it? How do you turn a dream life into reality?
Here’s how I go from dreaming to doing in four minutes:
- Set an alarm for two minutes
- Stand tall and close my eyes, take a few deep breaths
- Start role-playing the outcome of my dream life in my mind, feeling how it would feel for it to be real, how I’d act if it were already accomplished
- With that excitement fresh in my system, I re-set my timer for another two minutes and then imagine the next TWO things I have to do to make my dream life reality: one I can do RIGHT NOW, and one I can do in 24hrs
This meditation lets me feel my dream as a real outcome. More importantly, it also make me commit to WHAT I’M WILLING TO DO TO GET THERE. If I can’t prioritize doing two things that can get done in a day, I don’t really want this ‘dream life’ and I have to get honest about that.
I don’t actually want to do the work to become a guitar-playing superstar. I’m perfectly content to simply imagine what that might be like. But I DO want to be the best yoga teacher trainer in the world. The work to be that is worth it because it lets me geek out on stuff I’d read and learn for fun anyway, and it I get to work with the best people to create real growth and change that make their dream lives become their real lives.
Are you ready to do the work?
YOU also have to get honest about your dream life. If you’re unwilling to do TWO things that can be done right now and by tomorrow to make your dream a reality, you’re not willing to do what it takes, period.
But if you are willing to do what it takes to get there, you can get started RIGHT NOW. Set your alarm for four minutes, and answer three questions:
- Where do I want to go?
- How do I want to feel when I arrive?
- What am I willing to do to get there?
That’s how you create your dream life: One action at a time.
Go ahead, try it right now. Sit tall, take a few deep breaths, and spend four minutes visualizing your answers to those ^^ three questions.
Go ahead, I’ll wait …
If you don’t have four minutes to focus on making your dreams reality, you don’t have a dream.Tony Robbins, paraphrased
Did you get more clear on your what your dream life would really feel like to live? Were you able to choose what you’re willing to do to achieve that dream life? Did you let go of a dream that you weren’t willing to work to make real? Do you feel more free? Did you struggle with this meditation? Why? I’d love to know – drop your thoughts in the comments!
Is your dream life to become a yoga teacher?
Great news: There are TWO things you can do, right now and in the next 24 hours to make that dream your reality:
Curious what it’s like to be a yoga teacher?
