This course focuses on THREE key areas of teaching yoga to young people:
We’ll study the TOP 12 postures for kids, and how to teach them in a way that’s safe + fun.
You’ll end up knowing how to teach far more than 12 yoga postures, but it’s much easier to anchor yourself in a basic set of poses and then learn how to change them in fun and creative ways than try to memorize dozens of shapes – which can feel overwhelming.
A huge part of teaching to kids is holding their interest (as you know!), so we’ll talk through how to create stories, and turn yoga into a jump-in moving adventure.
We’ll also talk through how to use postures for empowerment by pairing movement with emotional states. Learn to use yoga and meditation to help kids move through different emotions and situations well (i.e. poses for anger, impatience, calming anxiety, struggles with listening, etc.)
We’ll learn simple ways for kids to self-regulate and self-comfort their way to more ease through breath and focusing practices.
We’ll discuss the emotional and mental struggles you see in your classrooms, and tailor this training to their needs through workshopping cueing, assisting, and teaching styles unique to the teachers in the training.
We’ll discuss useful strategies, structure, and styles for teaching yoga to kids.
In addition to moving and meditating, we’ll spend time discussing your kids’ “State of the Union” and what made you want to teach yoga to your students. We’ll take a look at what tools, skills, abilities, and developmental levels kids generally need to be happy, successful, empowered, and anti-fragile (capable of not only dealing with life’s slings and arrows but able to overcome and improve from hardship) in today’s world – in THEIR worlds – and how yoga and meditation can help support their durability.
We’ll also discuss what inhibits these goals, and where yoga could become a great life skill, practice, safe haven, and source of joy for these kids for years to come.
We’ll also devote time to addressing how to teach yoga in a bias-neutral way, helping to ease concerns from parents about yoga being a religious cult, and other possible conflicts teachers may encounter from introducing yoga to kids.
Much of what’s taught in other Kid’s Yoga certifications is basic “teaching-to-K-12” theory and practice; because you’re all already teachers, this training can be more compact and efficient by focusing on yoga content and delivery.
