For so long in North America we’ve considered yoga to be a panacea of healing, a safe haven, a movement practice where open hands abound, grabbing hold of our bodies to help us let go of our limits. But we’re waking up to the realities of trauma in yoga’s history and how we’re perpetuating it in our contemporary culture.
Diane Bruni was the first Ashtanga yoga teacher in Canada, co-founded the Downward Dog Yoga Centre, and hosted the internationally aired television series Breathing Space Yoga. She’s now calling out aspects of the practice that are causing injuries, and finding her own ways to change the very art of yogic movement as we know it.
